I've known Kinney since we worked together at the US Department of Justice in 1999. We were both part of the team under Attorney General Janet Reno that saw the largest drop in crime in US history. Kinney is a great leader and a person of admirable depth and character.

As the retired Police Chief of San Jose, the nation's 12th largest city, I know that keeping communities safe takes leaders who can bring together all its sectors — from business to government to nonprofits to political parties to thought leaders — to make aligned, coordinated investments.
