STATEMENT FROM KINNEY ZALESNE ON THE RETIREMENT OF CONGRESSWOMAN ELEANOR HOLMES NORTON
WASHINGTON, DC — Kinney Zalesne released the following statement in response to Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton’s decision not to seek re-election as DC’s Delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives:
“I want to thank Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton for her tremendous service to the District of Columbia. I first met her in 1995 when she was new to that role and I was working in the White House. I’ve had tremendous respect for her ever since and I hope the whole city will join together in celebration and tribute for her service to the District.”
For over three decades, Congresswoman Norton has been the face and voice of Washington, DC in the halls of Congress. She has carried the District’s fight for statehood with unmatched persistence, making it a defining cause of her career.
Her legacy goes beyond legislation — she has been a pioneer for civil rights, an unwavering advocate for equality, and a source of pride for generations of Washingtonians. Her leadership has shaped the way the nation understands DC’s struggle for representation and has left an enduring mark on our city’s place in American history.
Delegate Norton’s retirement closes a remarkable chapter of service, but her achievements will continue to guide DC’s path forward. Her courage and determination stand as an example for all who fight for fairness and democracy.
Kinney Zalesne, a former senior DOJ official, nonprofit leader, and advocate for DC residents, is a leading candidate for DC Delegate in the 2026 election.
